Morris County Farms, Inc. was founded in 1955 by Adrian Baierl, who was later joined by his brother Norman “Chubby” Baierl.
Originally, the business was established as a roadside farm stand on Route 46 in Parsippany. In the early 1970’s, the business moved to its current location in Denville. Early inventory included a small selection of annuals, cut-flowers, azaleas, mums, fruits, vegetables, and even eggs.
James “Jim” Moore took ownership of the business in 1989, expanding their goods to meet the wholesale needs of florists, landscapers, and interior designers as well as our loyal, well-established retail customers. In 2013, they mourned the loss of Jim, a dear friend and leader. His sons Jim and Tom took ownership of the farm and continue to carry on Jim’s vision of Morris County Farms, Inc.

Jenn Fox of Dash of Thyme and Beth Billmeier of Pure Barre of Denville were elected in the Business Owner Category. Alexis Schoerner of Highlands State Bank was elected in the Second Floor Business Owner Category, and Gene Fitzpatrick was elected in the Denville Resident category. Township Councilman John Murphy, Business Administrator Steve Ward, and Mayor Tom Andes will remain on the Board as Ex-Officio (non-voting) members.
The Downtown Denville Business Improvement District is a 501 (c) (3) organization whose mission is to drive commerce and expand economic opportunity in downtown Denville by providing services, development, improvements, and community-oriented programming that appeals to shoppers, workers, residents, and visitors. The aim is to create a vibrant downtown that reflects Denville’s unique history, and where both businesses and residents can flourish. The organization is governed by a ten (10) member Board of Directors made up of local business and property owners. There are three ex-officio members of the Board representing the Township of Denville.
Also at the October 23 meeting, the Board approved the purchase of hanging flower baskets for the 2019 spring/summer season. The BID has decorated the downtown’s newly installed, decorative street lamps with hanging flower baskets for the past two (2) years.
At the meeting, which takes place every fourth Tuesday of each month, members of the downtown community provide feedback and pitch ideas with the goal of improving the downtown shopping experience. Additionally, the organization solicits volunteers for its many committees, including marketing, fundraising, special events, and economic development, all with the goal of expanding Denville’s reach into the broader Morris County community. Business owners or community members interested in participating on a BID committee can contact volunteers@downtowndenville.com.
More information about the BID, its upcoming events, and its programs can be found online at www.downtowndenville.com or on Facebook @downtowndenville.
