Naturalist Mike Leone will lead a 2 hour walk in Jonathan’s Woods to discover the hidden secrets of the forest by slowing down and taking a closer look at the plants and animals that inhabit this temperate mixed deciduous woodland. We will also look for signs of how the ecosystem has been altered by early settlers and grazing livestock. Prior to arrival of European settlers, Native Americans occupied these forests and searched for edible plants, nuts, fruits, mushrooms and medicinal herbs. We’ll see how many of these native plants we can find while looking for nesting birds, mammals and other surprises. All ages welcome! Some areas we explore may be wet, muddy or rocky. Wear sturdy hiking shoes; bring your camera, binoculars and water. Dress appropriately for the weather as we will go rain or shine.

Another Possible Piece of #MorrisCty History – #Denville

I had taken out several history books from #DenvilleLibrary on #Denville and #MorrisCty a few years ago. I set out on several explores based on what I read to see if I could catch a glimpse of the past. I may have found a Native American border marker too:

Waiting to hear back from @StrangeMorris to see how to get his tree verified and I will do the same outreach on this one!

#Denville PROUD! – Girl Scouts Step Up – Helps Food Pantry

#Denville’s Girl Scouts saw the need and stepped up!

#Denville’s Food Pantry Needed Supplies

Our Girl Scouts are selling cookies now! Keep their good will in mind and help them out! (who doesn’t love cookies anyway 😀 ). I did not have cash on me when I saw them at the ACME in #Denville. An innovative mom there with the troop was able to sign into the Girl Scout Troop’s PayPal and took my cookie payments via PayPal!

Denville’s Hunan Taste declared ‘best Chinese restaurant’ in NJ

#Denville – VFW-Kiwanis Corned Beef & Cabbage Dinner

VFW-Denville Kiwanis Corned Beef & Cabbage Dinner

***March 16, at 5-7p.m.***

VFW hall at 71 Ford Road in Denville.

Goal is to serve 100 meals at this joint event!
——–
(DENVILLE, NJ) — Two of the oldest service clubs in Denville, NJ, will offer their community more than a good meal at the VFW’s annual Corned Beef & Cabbage Dinner on March 16, at 5-7 p.m. at 71 Ford Road in Denville.

The Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States, Post 2519 and the Kiwanis Club of Denville, founded in 1946, decided to join forces around this dinner as a way to offer their strengths to support each other as each club faced changes over the years.

They saw opportunity when one group had extra manpower to staff the dinner, while the other had a venue and a proven method to host large-scale meal events. Both clubs welcomed the joint venture as a creative way to serve a hardy meal, invite new members, raise funds for their community projects, and continue long traditions of service in Denville.

The event will be a full dinner with salad, soda bread, dessert, coffee, tea and soft drinks. Tickets are $15 at the door. Take out will be available. Donations are welcomed if you are not able to stay for dinner.

The VFW Post 2519 strives to do good things for deserving people – our veterans, their families and their communities. The Kiwanis Club of Denville is one of about 8,600 Kiwanis clubs in 80 countries around the world; Kiwanis is dedicated to improving the lives of children one community at a time.
