#MorrisCty – The Raptor Trust

Have you ever been to the Raptor Trust?  My daughter had an internship here and it is a fantastic day trip!

The Raptor Trust is a result of one man’s long-time interest in nature and, particularly, birds of prey. Len Soucy first became interested in hawks after a visit to Hawk Mountain Sanctuary in Kempton, Pennsylvania, in the fall of 1964. From that time on he has had a passionate concern for the well-being of raptors. His concern was well founded, for prior to the passage of the Federal Migratory Bird Treaty Act in 1972, there was no legal protection for hawks and owls. In the ecological “dark ages,” raptors (and most other predators) were viewed as vermin, bad and vicious killers, and they were regularly destroyed with impunity.

Many states, including New Jersey, actually placed bounties on some birds of prey. And although there were many raptor advocates like Soucy, there were precious few people, and almost no facilities, that provided care to injured and orphaned predatory birds.  In 1968 Soucy bought a home on 14 acres of property in Millington, N.J.

Disney Cruise Line launches the Disney Magic

July 30, 1998, Disney launched it’s first cruise ship, the Disney Magic.

Sail the high seas with the Disney Magic as your guide and drop anchor in some of the world’s most magical places, including Northern Europe, the Mediterranean and the Caribbean!

The Disney Magic has 11 public decks, can accommodate 2,700 passengers in 875 staterooms, and has a crew of approximately 950. The interior of Disney Magic is decorated in the Art Deco style, in contrast to her sister ship, Disney Wonder, which is decorated in the Art Nouveau style.

Disney’s Magic’s ship’s horn blast plays an excerpt from Disney’s famous flagship tune, “When You Wish upon a Star”.

Watch Dualing Ship Horns between Disney Magic and Disney Dream!

Fun Tidbit. Disney loves incorporating their theme music. Did you know that Disney World use to have a runway where small aircraft use to land? This was before the monorail was put in. When small aircraft use to land at Disney World, the runway was (still is) grooved so when tires get speeds up to 45 miles per hour, the friction actually plays, “When you wish upon a star”.

Request for Video re MV Burglaries in Shongum Rd Area; Virtual Crime Watch Program Information

The Denville Police Department is investigating several motor vehicle burglaries and a motor vehicle theft that occurred overnight in the Shongum Road section of town. We are asking any residents in this area who have a surveillance camera system to review the footage for any suspicious activity between 11pm on 07/24/2018 and 5am on 07/25/2018. If you discover any video that may be of assistance, please contact Det. Tobin (973-627-4900 x 350) or Det. Fernandez (973-627-4900 x 360).

We would also like to take this opportunity to remind everyone of our Virtual Crime Watch Program. This is a surveillance camera registration program, so that we can more easily identify residents or businesses that have surveillance cameras that may assist in an active investigation. It is simply a registration program, you are not providing us access to your system. If and when an incident occurs in your neighborhood, you will be contacted and asked to review your system’s footage for the applicable time period. If anything of investigative value is found, you will then be asked to provide us with a copy of the applicable footage. More information on the program, including how to register, can be found on the Community Services page our website — www.denvillepolice.org.
