Disney Fantasy Cruise Returns to the British Virgin Islands

Disney Fantasy has returned to the British Virgin Islands!

Guests were welcomed and greeted with drinks and a small parade that showcased the BVI culture.

“We were so happy to see Disney Fantasy berthed at our pier once again and their over 3,600 passengers and 1,531 crew members on ground enjoying our cruise and shopping facility and the destination,” said Vance Lewis, Interim CEO of Tortola Pier Park. “Our partner cruise lines and Florida Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA) has worked tirelessly with us over the past months ensuring the quick recovery of our islands and Disney Fantasy being back here is yet another showing of their commitment to the BVI and our cruise product.”

“We welcome Disney back with open arms and look forward to the full return of all the cruise lines to our beautiful shores,” he said.

Not only can CaribbeanDays book your cruise; but CaribbeanDays also has luxury villas on the British Virgin Islands!

And, if you are ever unsure as to whether you would like your vacation to be a cruise or a luxury villas stay, contact us for a consult. Many cruise lines offer repositioning cruises. Disney Welcome’s Baby Aella!

Disney Welcome’s Baby Aella!

Aella’s birth marks a first for her parents – mom Lily and dad George. The pair was chosen to breed through the Species Survival Plan (SSP), which is overseen by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums and ensures responsible breeding of threatened and endangered species. Breeding this pair is important to the long-term survival of the species because it adds more genetic diversity to the giraffe population, which helps ensure future generations.

Aella will nurse for about a year, and then, as a herbivore, she will move to the lush vegetation available throughout the savanna. When full grown, she will use her 18-inch tongue to strip leaves off thorny branches from the tops and sides of trees to consume up to 75 pounds of food a day.

That’s a tall order!

The Masai giraffe is a vulnerable species found primarily in Kenya and Tanzania. There are believed to be roughly 32,000 Masai giraffes left in the wild, and their population continues to decline because of poaching and habitat loss.

The Disney Conservation Fund supports conservation efforts in Africa to protect wildlife habitats, including those of giraffes. Earlier this year, several Disney animal care experts went to Uganda to help relocate a herd of giraffes across the Nile River to establish a newer, safer habitat away from oil-drilling fields. Another team went to Kenya to support a giraffe and zebra population census.

You can not only book your stay at Disney; but, we can book your safari tours and backstage tours of Disney’s Animal Kingdom where guests can see the veterinary hospital!

Fire Engine Debuts at Disneyland Park, 1958

Sixty years ago, the Fire Engine made its first journey down Main Street, U.S.A. Let’s take a ride down memory lane to hear the story behind one of Disneyland Resort’s most beloved classic vehicles.

Fire Engine at Disneyland park

To start, here are five fun facts about the Fire Engine:

  1. It made its debut in 1958 as the last addition to Disneyland park’s classic vehicle fleet.
  2. The vehicle is not licensed to drive on public streets, so it is exclusive to the Disneyland Resort.
  3. Although it cruises up and down Main Street, U.S.A. at 5 miles per hour with guests in tow, the Fire Engine’s top speed is 35 miles per hour.
  4. As a true piece of beloved Disney history, the Fire Engine is kept in immaculate condition, and its details always look sparkly and new.
  5. The truck was inspired by turn-of-the-early 20th century Fire Engines, such as the 1907 Rambler and vintage LaFrance fire trucks.

The Fire Engine has an incredibly rich Disney history. Now, let’s take a closer look at three important people in this vehicle’s story:

  1. Bob Gurr: The Fire Engine was designed by Bob Gurr, a legendary Imagineer with more than 100 plans for Disney attractions under his belt. Walt Disney first took notice of Bob’s passion for tools and mechanics after Bob consulted on the creation of attractions vehicles for Autopia, and the two men would go to inspire one another for years.
  2. Walt Disney: Walt himself was known to drive the Fire Engine through the park before opening to survey operations and discover opportunities for improvement. In fact, in the fall of 1966, Walt and Mickey posed on the Fire Engine in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle for what would become one of their last photos together. These photos have become iconic images of Walt, a symbol of the magical legacy he left behind.
  3. Steve Finley: It’s nearly impossible to talk about the Fire Engine without mentioning longtime attraction host Steven “Steve” Finley. Steve got his start at the Disneyland Resort in 1973 working at Tomorrowland Terrace Restaurant, and has served as beloved driver of the Fire Engine for the past 40 years. Nowadays, he can often be found handing out stickers to young riders or sounding the Fire Engine’s immediately recognizable horn.

Want to take a ride on the Fire Engine in celebration of its 60th anniversary?  CaribbeanDays, an Authorized Disney Vacation Planner can take you here!
